Municipal filing period ends; candidates prepare for November election
The filing period for municipal candidates in the November General Election closed at noon Wednesday, August 7, and records in the Boone County Clerk’s Office show there will be three races for open Harrison City Council seats.
Ward 1 Position 1 Councilmember Jeremy Ragland announced earlier this year that he wouldn’t seek reelection. Josh Earl and Stephen Franco have filed for that position.
Ward 1 Position 2 Councilmember Mary Jean Creager also said she wouldn’t seek another term. Gwen Hoffmann and Elizabeth (Liz) Torgerson filed to run for that seat.
Ward 3 Position 1 Councilmember Liz Darden is not seeking reelection. Charlie Pierce, Mellie Williams and Austin Wilson are set for a three-way competition in that race.
Incumbent Councilmembers Wayne Cone, Mitch Magness, Reed Petty, Larry Phillips and Joel Williams all filed for reelection and are unopposed. City Clerk James L. White, who was appointed to replace Jeff Pratt when he retired in November, is also unopposed in the November election.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5, with early voting running from October 21 through November 4.
Only registered voters in the city limits are eligible for that election. The last day to register to vote is October 7. Visit the Boone County Election Center at the corner of West Central Avenue and South Cherry Street in Harrison to register.
