Wellness Tips

  • Make time for breakfast.  Try: skim milk & cereal, whole wheat toast, fruit, yogurt or eggs.

8 Good Reasons to exercise:

  • Delaying death from all causes
  • Decreasing the risk of developing coronary heart disease, heart attack, and stroke
  • Lessening the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes
  • Reducing the risk of certain cancers including breast and colon cancer
  • Improving blood pressure control in hypertensive individuals
  • Preserving bone mass and reducing the risk of developing osteoporosis
  • Improving mood in mild-to-moderate depression
  • Lowering the risk of cognitive decline and dementia

 ...more below:

  • Most people need 7.5 hours of sleep. (Five percent of people can get by with 6 hours) Sleep-deprived people crave carbohydrates.
  • Weight is a good indicator of stress. Your waist should not exceed half your height. (Men, be sure to measure your actual waist; don’t use your belt size. As men gain weight, they don’t tend to buy longer belts—there’s just more and more belly that flops over the old belt. In fact, there is a “tight belt syndrome”. Symptoms are relieved by loosening the belt.)
  • Eat spicy foods.

 Fitness websites to check out:

  • Myfitnesspal.com
  • AARP.org

Are you a smoker?

  • Did you know that smoking is associated with a higher risk of diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, colorectal cancer, erectile dysfunction, lung disease, heart attacks and stroke?
  • By 2016, more than 70% of companies are expected to reward or penalize employees based on their smoking habits.  Penalties may get as high as $1,200 annually.
  • Each smoker costs companies an additional $5,800 a year.
