Larry Phillips has a varied background and set of job skills. The most unique is his three-year acting career when he used his skills to play various characters in The Passion Play at Eureka Springs.
“Our son was hired as a Roman Soldier, and since he was underage, he couldn’t work without an adult in the cast, too. That experience was great with some incredible people. I played Herod or a street vendor at times,” he said.
His least favorite job in his past was in cost accounting at the Rival Manufacturing Plant in Kansas City. His job was to price every item it took to make a crock pot or a can opener. “That just wasn’t me,” he laughs.
He loved working for seven years with Wilco FW Woolworth and then was hired as an assistant manager at a Walmart in Taylorville, Illinois. That began his career with Walmart, which eventually brought him to Harrison. When Scott Miller hired him for Arvest Bank, he “retired” on a Thursday after 29 years and seven months. Then, on Monday, he went to work for Arvest Bank. “We didn’t get too far on my wife’s honey-do list.”
Larry and Ruth have been married for 51 years and have three children and five grandchildren.
