Teresa Halsted to retire after 48 years

Teresa Halsted has worked with numerous mayors in the 48 years she has been with the City of Harrison. She plans to retire on Dec. 31, 2024.

“I feel ready to start a new adventure after 48 years. I have enjoyed the people I have worked with and will miss my “second family” with the city.

CFO Luke Feighert said, “Teresa has been one of our most valued employees for many, many years. But more importantly, she has been a great friend to all of us here at City Hall.  Her dedication and loyalty to our city epitomizes everything you could ask for in an employee. We are going to miss her and wish her a happy retirement! (Enjoy many concerts in the future, Teresa!).

Teresa graduated from the Vo/Tech School at 19 and interviewed with Mayor Eugene C. Martin. He hired her the same day, and the rest is history.

When she began, everything was still done by hand, and computers were just getting started in the workplace. Her job involved water bills and payroll — “And today, I do payroll and accounts payable,” she laughed.

She worked for many mayors, and two mayors were her boss twice when they kept running against each other and taking turns winning.

Teresa and her husband, Kenny, have been married for 44 years and have a grown daughter who lives in Northwest Arkansas. Kenny retired after selling his business, D & H Glass.

“We have cattle, so we will stay busy with them in January. We might take a trip in the Spring, but nothing is planned yet.”

The City will host a retirement party after the holidays to honor her service to the community.
